Coral Coast W.A Broome to Perth

The Coral Coast has some of Western Australia’s most outstanding natural attractions.
Where the desert meets the sea, we start in Broome before overnight right on Eighty Mile Beach in cabins, then onto Port Hedland, and Karatha. Spend a couple of nights in Exmouth and cruise the spectacular Ningaloo Reef the largest fringing reef on earth. Explore the World Heritage Area of Shark Bay, the banana plantations of Carnarvon and the dolphins of Monkey Mia. Explore the gorges, canyons and creeks of the Cape Range National Park and the magnificent Kalbarri national Park. Visit the Nambung National Park where you can explore the world renowned Pinnacles Desert, an amazing moon like landscape covering about 404 hectares. Your holiday ends in Perth, or you could stay on board and travel home through the South West Corner and across the Nullabor.

Luggage: Luggage to be packed in a soft sports bag or similar (no wheels or hard-sided bags allowed) A small backpack for inside the vehicle is recommended as this is to be stored under your seat when the vehicle is moving. Luggage to weigh no more than 17 kg backpack 5 kg.

ITINERARY

Day 1. Home—Broome (D)

You will be greeted at Broome airport this afternoon and taken on brief tour of the cosmopolitan town of Broome. Explore some of the scenic sights including Cable Beach, Chinatown, Streeters Jetty, Town Beach Japanese Cemetery, Dinosaur footprints, and Anastasia’s Pool.

Day 2. Broome (B)

This weekend is Broome Cup weekend if you are interested in horse racing. We explore more of the town and sights today followed by sunset at Cable Beach. Dinner own expense.

Day 3. Broome Free Day (BD)

Today has been set aside for you to enjoy your own time. You may like to take an optional tour or just relax by the pool. Tonight we enjoy dinner at a local restaurant .

Day 4. Broome - Eighty Mile Beach (BLD)

Departing the hustle and bustle of Broome we travel the Great Northern Highway through some of Australia’s most remote countryside. Stop at the Sandfire Roadhouse for lunch before making our way to Eighty Mile Beach. The perfect place to walk the beach or just sit and watch the sun go down.

Day 5. Eighty Mile Beach - Port Hedland (BD)

Follow the shoreline of Eighty Mile Beach where the Great Sandy Desert stretches to the ocean. Visit the Pardoo Roadhouse on our way into Port Headland, a thriving community home to the largest tonnage port in Australia. Port Hedland has a natural deep anchorage harbour which as well as being the main fuel and container receival point for the region, was seen as perfect for shipment of the iron ore being mined in the ranges located inland from the town.

Day 6. Port Hedland—Dampier (BD)

This morning we will visit the small settlement of Whim Creek on our way to the former gold rush town of Roebourne. Many fine old stone buildings still remain as a constant reminder of these early years. We will take a drive out to Wickham and Cape Lambert before making our way to Karatha and then onto Dampier for overnight.

Day 7. Dampier—Exmouth (BD)

Travel along the North West Coastal Highway to Nanutra Roadhouse for a cuppa. Cross the Yannarie River at Barradale before branching off the highway and make our way to the coastal town of Exmouth and the North West Cape.

Day 8. Ningaloo Reef (BD)

This morning we take a unique glass bottom boat cruise on Ningaloo, Western Australia’s largest coral reef. Some 500 species of fish and 250 types of coral are to be found. After our cruise we explore some of the local sights in the Cape Range National Park. Exmouth’s strong military history is evident right along the tip of North West Cape, but some of the best examples of this fighting past can be found at the Krait and Potshot Memorials which we will visit this afternoon.

Day 9. Exmouth—Carnarvon (BD)

Making our way along the Minilay Exmouth road back to the Highway for our drive into Carnarvon. Carnarvon is a real oasis, thanks to the mighty Gascoyne River and supplies Perth with its fruit and vegetables through the winter months. We will visit the HMAS Sydney 11 memorial and wall of remembrance. View One Mile Jetty and historic buildings around town.

Day 10. Shark Bay & Monkey Mia (BD)

This morning we make our way to the Overlander Roadhouse where we branch off the highway and travel to the world heritage region of Shark Bay. Stroll along the shores of Shell Beach and take in the views from Eagle Bluff before we continue on to Monkey Mia, where wild bottle nosed dolphins come close to shore.

Day 11. Shark Bay - Kalbarri (BD)

Take time this morning to stroll along the beach before we start our journey to Kalbarri. Kalbarri is where the Murchison River meets the Indian Ocean. A beautiful town surrounded by beaches and gorges.

Day 12. Kalbarri National Park (BLD)

Visit Kalbarri National Park with its crimson coastal cliffs, discover the wild beauty of ancient landscape, view spectacular Murchison River gorges and wildlife & native fauna. The Murchison River gorges in the Kalbarri National Park are also particularly spectacular. The gorges have been carved over millions of years to form dramatic sandstone cliff faces which plummet into the Murchison River as it meanders towards the township of Kalbarri. we view the gorges from some of the many lookouts including the famous Nature’s Window where the vista is seen through a massive red rock frame.

Day 13. Geraldton (BD)

Today we travel the coast though Shoal Point to Port Gregory near the mouth of the Hutt River and home to the most amazing Pink Lake. We re-join the highway at the historic town of Northampton for the short drive to Geraldton on the shores of Champion Bay. Take in the sights of the town and the port of Geraldton. Also visit Geraldton’s memorial to HMAS SYDNEY 11 a dominant feature on the city’s skyline, sitting atop an often windswept Mount Scott and offering panoramic views across Geraldton to the Indian Ocean.

Day 14. Geraldton - Dalwallinu (BD)

Further south we visit the historic hamlet of Greenough, see the twisted red gums bent parallel to the ground. See the remains of a once large community scattered across the flats. Next stop will be the twin towns of Dongara and Port Denison. Dongara and Port Denison are divided by the Irwin River, which creates a scenic landmark as it meanders between the two towns. We then make our way inland to join the Midlands Highway known as the scenic and historic route through agriculture areas in the state’s Wheatbelt region.

Day 15. Dalwallinu—Perth (BLD)

This morning we travel through Moora to the small town of Cervantes to visit Nambung National Park. Take a journey through the Pinnacles, studs of limestone jutting from the desert sand, their origin is still subject to debate. Continue into Perth.

Day 16 Perth City Sights (BD)

Walk through Kings Park, take in the magnificent view from the lookout before joining a cruise on the Swan River to Fremantle. Returning to our motel to enjoy our farewell dinner.

Day 17. Perth—Home (B)

Transfer to Perth airport for your return flight to Sydney
